Welcome from Principal Laurie Hitzges
It is my absolute honor to serve as the principal of Everwood Elementary School as we begin our second year together as a school community. As I embark on my 30th year in education, I remain committed to sharing my passion for literacy, language, and meaningful learning experiences with our students and families.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of educational roles, including teacher and assistant principal in Broward County, Florida, and Jackson County, Georgia. I also had the honor of serving as principal of both World Language Academy Middle School and McEver Arts Academy in the Hall County School District. Each of these experiences has strengthened my belief that every child can learn and every child deserves an exceptional education that prepares them for success beyond the classroom.
At Everwood, we strive to create an environment where our students feel valued and inspired to reach their full potential. I believe in the power of a supportive and inclusive school community where students are encouraged to explore their interests, think critically, and grow into compassionate, globally minded, lifelong learners. Education is a partnership, and I look forward to collaborating with our outstanding teachers, dedicated staff, supportive families, and community members throughout the 2026–2027 school year.
As a first-generation bilingual Cuban American, a proud wife of 33 years to my high school sweetheart, a mother of two grown children, and a grandmother, I understand the important role that family and community play in a child’s success.
At Everwood, we did not simply merge two schools—we built one community with a shared vision and purpose. As one team, we have laid a strong foundation, and our story is only beginning! Together, we will continue writing the next chapter of Everwood Elementary; a chapter defined by opportunity and an unwavering belief in every child. I am excited about what lies ahead!
