Welcome from Principal Laurie Hitzges
It is with great excitement and deep honor that I introduce myself as the new principal of Everwood Elementary School, beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. As I embark on my 29th year in education, I am thrilled to bring my experiences and passion for literacy, language, and experiential learning to the Everwood community.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of educational roles, including teacher and assistant principal in Broward County, Florida, and Jackson County, Georgia. Most recently, I served as principal of both the World Language Academy Middle School and McEver Arts Academy in the Hall County School District. Each step along the way has shaped my belief that education is not just about imparting knowledge, but about fostering a community of curiosity, respect, and growth.
I am committed to creating an environment where every student feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential. I firmly believe in the power of a supportive and inclusive educational community, where students are encouraged to explore their passions, develop critical thinking skills, and grow into compassionate, globally minded, lifelong learners. I view education as a partnership, and I look forward to collaborating with our incredible teachers, staff, families, and community to make Everwood Elementary a place where every child can thrive.
As a first-generation bilingual Cuban American, a proud wife of 32 years to my high school sweetheart, and a mother of two grown children who also work in education, I understand the importance of family and community in supporting our children’s success. We are not just merging two schools; we are creating a unified community, and when we come together, we will do extraordinary things. The future of Everwood Elementary is bright, and I cannot wait to see all the wonderful things we will accomplish together!
Warm regards,
Laurie Hitzges
